Damn … I feel for Evgeni.
Evgeni Malkin, a star center for the Pittsburgh Penguins, is the latest in a string of athletes who have had their homes broken into. In Malkin’s case, he had not one, not two, but three Stanley Cup championship rings stolen from him, sources told KDKA-TV.
The residence of the 38-year-old was burglarized the same day that his team was squaring off against the Ottawa Senators, sources said. The Pens lost the Saturday contest, 5-0, with Malkin being out of action because of an upper-body injury. “We are working closely with local authorities and team security,” said the Penguins in an official statement Tuesday night. “Malkin has requested that his privacy be respected during this time, and we will have no further comment on the matter.”
Malkin is a 19-year veteran in the NHL, with every season being in Pittsburgh. In the 2011-12 campaign, Malkin scored the Hart Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player of the league. In his career, he’s racked up 1,329 points off 506 goals and 823 assists. And, of course, you have those three championships.
I can’t help but to think about the suspected South American organized criminal groups that the FBI warned about … I’m only speculating, but I bet I’m right.
