Pennsylvania thrift store finds rare 14-karat gold LEGO mask, expected to rake in thousands at auction

An employee at a Goodwill Industries warehouse in Dubois, Pennsylvania, discovered a rare 14-karat gold Lego mask. The mask will then be put up for auction and could fetch thousands of dollars.

Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania posted on its Facebook page that a story about a 14-carat gold Lego Bionicle house mask had gone viral among some groups, and the product was posted on its website. He added that

“The last time this item was listed, bids were up to $33,000, but the final bid came from a fake account. Therefore, we thought relisting it was the fairest course of action. ,” the charity’s post said. “We don’t think it’s going to be that expensive again, but it’s still a very rare item.”

According to a social media post from the Goodwill location, only 30 of the 14-karat gold Lego masks were made.

Some of the gold items were given to LEGO employees who continued to submit them, while the rest were awarded as prizes in a 2001 magazine contest.

Fox News Digital reached out to Goodwill Industries at both the national and local level but did not immediately receive a response.

Goodwill Industries of North Central Pennsylvania told a local CBS station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, that they initially had no idea what they had gotten.

“It came in a random box of jewelry from the State College store,” Jessical Illuzzi, the station’s social media and public relations coordinator, told the station. So it was already being handled with donations.

Chad Smith, Goodwill’s vice president of e-commerce and technology, told the station Lego also made silver and platinum masks. He also said that if the auction reaches $5,000, that will be the highest price ever sold.

Lego did not immediately respond to a request from Fox News Digital for confirmation on the story surrounding the scarcity of 14-karat gold masks.

Still, if Musk is rated the way Goodwill hopes, it could bring significant benefits to the organization.

As of Tuesday evening, an auction for the gold mask on shopgoodwill.com had reached more than $7,000.
