The Pentagon criticizes Netflix over its new military series Boots, which centers on a gay man’s journey in the United States Marine Corps during the 1990s.
As reported, the Pentagon claims that Netflix is promoting an “ideological agenda” with this show.
Pentagon spokesperson Kingsley Wilson stated, “Under President Trump and Secretary Hegseth, the military is re-embracing a warrior ethos. Our standards are elite, uniform, and gender-neutral because the physical demands of service remain the same, regardless of gender or sexual orientation.”
He further added, “We will not lower our standards for ideological reasons, unlike Netflix, which continually puts out what many consider to be ‘woke garbage’ aimed at viewers and children.”
The series premiered earlier this month, shortly after Army Secretary Hegseth revealed new personnel standards.
Meanwhile, Hegseth addressed military leaders at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia, encouraging them to enforce “ruthlessness, calm, and common-sense standards.” He emphasized the importance of maintaining high, uniform, and gender-neutral standards, asserting that “leaders are the ones who set the standards.”
“Effective immediately, all Joint Service members are required to take physical training tests twice a year and comply with height and weight standards annually,” Hegseth mentioned. “Additionally, every Joint Force member must engage in physical training daily. This isn’t just stretching or yoga; we’re talking about rigorous physical training, whether as a unit or individually. From the highest-ranking officials to the newest recruits, our leaders need to take the lead.”
He argued, “Standards must be uniform, gender-neutral, and rigorous. If they’re not, then they simply aren’t standards—they’re merely suggestions. And those suggestions could endanger our soldiers.”
Since its release, the Netflix series has consistently appeared in the platform’s top 10 viewership rankings.
