Ryder gave an update on Austin in an interview Friday. In it, Austin said he was hospitalized due to complications related to prostate cancer surgery, but is recovering well.
Pentagon officials did not provide a date for Austin's discharge from the hospital.
However, Ryder insisted that Austin was “fully committed” to preparing for the strike and had agreed to the strike himself.
“(Austin) has met with the president twice in the last 72 hours and has had multiple daily calls with the CENTCOM commander, the chairman, and the national security adviser,” Rider said. “And, as you highlight, he gave the order yesterday afternoon to carry out these attacks.”
Ryder also said the secretary of defense takes full responsibility for the need for more transparency at the Department of Defense, as his hospital stay kept secret from the White House for several days has come under widespread scrutiny. Stated.
