Pentagon Monitors Reactions to Assassination of Conservative Leader
Recent celebrations following the assassination of Charlie Kirk have raised alarms among Pentagon officials. The Defense Department is currently observing the response, particularly concerning any actions against military personnel involved. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, along with other Military and Department leaders, stated that they are “tracking” Kirk’s death and assured the issue will be dealt with “soon.” The reactions on platforms like X, Bluesky, and TikTok have sparked concern, especially from left-leaning users who openly praised the assassination of the conservative figure.
“It’s unacceptable for military and War Department civilians to celebrate or laugh at the assassination of fellow Americans,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell in a post on X.
It is unacceptable that military and war ministry civilians celebrate or laugh at the assassination of fellow Americans. The Ministry of War has zero tolerance for it.

The Air Force Department is aware of inappropriate comments on recent political violence. This behavior is unacceptable and goes against our core values. Airlines and parents are expected to maintain the highest standards of professionalism and behavior at all times.

Kirk was shot by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson at a Utah Valley University event on September 10. Robinson allegedly left multiple “anti-fascist” messages near bullet casings, as revealed by Utah Governor Spencer Cox during a press conference. The family described Robinson as becoming increasingly political and filled with hatred in recent years, noting his anti-Kirk sentiments.
In response to the outpouring of support for the assassination, Hegseth stated on X that the Department of Defense is closely monitoring the situation, calling the reactions “completely unacceptable.” Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll reiterated that such celebrations are inconsistent with military values.
We track all of this very closely. I’ll deal with it immediately. It’s completely unacceptable.

Posts celebrating or laughing at the assassination of fellow Americans contradict the military’s values. Full stop.

It’s still uncertain what actions might be taken against service members who showed support for Kirk’s death, including whether discharges or other penalties are on the table.
The Pentagon has opted not to provide further comments on the matter.
