Pentagon Official Placed on Leave After Undercover Video Revelation

Brandon Newsom, a senior official at the Pentagon, has been put on administrative leave following an undercover video where he made controversial remarks about his role after President Trump leaves office.

This report, released by independent journalist James O’Keefe, features Newsom, who camouflaged himself with a mustache and glasses during their meeting at a bar in Washington, D.C.

During the encounter, Newsom, who noted that he is not related to California’s Governor Gavin Newsom, discussed his responsibilities regarding the U.S. Navy and the implementation of executive orders. Initially, he seemed cautious, openly stating that he couldn’t share much due to laws prohibiting government officials from expressing personal views. He alluded to the Hatch Act, which prevents political biases in federal roles, allowing personal beliefs but restricting their influence in work.

Despite his hesitations, Newsom revealed sentiments that could compromise his professional integrity. He expressed discomfort with some of Trump’s policies, admitting his moral dilemmas regarding executive orders. Yet, he indicated a willingness to retain his position until Trump’s term concludes, suggesting that the next appointee could align more closely with the administration’s views.

“I’d rather stay in my role rather than let someone else, who shares their beliefs, take over. When the election changes, I prefer to be the one who can undo what’s been put in place,” he explained.

Meanwhile, in light of ongoing administration directives, Newsom mentioned that he and his colleagues are actively working to slow down the introduction of certain Trump-signature policies.

“There are many initiatives that they’re trying to push early on that haven’t been implemented yet because some individuals can effectively delay them,” he remarked.

In reaction to O’Keefe’s revelations, acting Secretary of the Navy, Hung Cao, announced via social media that Newsom’s leave is effective immediately.

“The Department of the Navy takes the conduct shown in this video incredibly seriously. Such comments and intentions to undermine the policies set by our elected leaders are unacceptable,” Cao stated. “This individual is now on administrative leave while we assess the situation to maintain accountability and protect our mission’s integrity.”
