‘People Are Really Excited About Trump’

CBS News reporter Adriana Diaz told “CBS Mornings” Tuesday that while traveling in Nevada, she interviewed people at restaurants who were “very excited” about voting for former President Donald Trump.

“This morning in our 'Three Meals' series we head to the battleground state of Nevada. Each week leading up to the election we'll travel to a different state with a different state in mind, sharing meals with voters and asking them what matters most to them,” co-host Tony Dokoupil said.

“Spanish settlers named this place Nevada, which means snow, but on the ground the state is scorching hot, just like what's being cooked in this smoker,” Diaz said. “It's the handiwork of the award-winning outdoor kitchen of Brothers Barbecue in Reno, and the enticing aroma of pulled pork draws people in, just like our friends here.”

She asked her customers, “What is most important to you?”

“I'm very worried about the border,” one woman said.

“Clark County's Las Vegas is home to casinos, Elvis impersonators and a vibrant Latino community that makes up more than 20 percent of the state's registered voters,” Diaz said.

“Tacos used to be $1 or $1.50, but since the pandemic they can't go below $3.50 or $4,” the food truck owner said.

“It was a lot of fun, but what's unbelievable is that at every restaurant, only one person who spoke to us was a Harris supporter,” Diaz said. “We tried everything, we approached everyone except for this person who probably had too many drinks at the bar. But people are really excited about Trump.”
