Pep Guardiola encourages his team to regain focus on qualifying for the Champions League.

Guardiola Urges Quick Recovery for Manchester City

Pep Guardiola has emphasized the need for Manchester City to bounce back swiftly following their recent FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace. The team faced a tough 1-0 loss at Wembley and will wrap up the season without any silverware. Their next challenge is against Bournemouth at the Etihad Stadium in a Premier League match scheduled for Tuesday.

Currently, City holds the final Champions League qualifying spot, sitting with 65 points—just one point ahead of Aston Villa. Next Sunday, the team is set to play Fulham, marking the end of the season.

“Time is of the essence,” Guardiola remarked. “We have an important game against Bournemouth, so we must recover quickly. We are a big club,” he stated. “There are key matches ahead that will shape the future of this club. The Champions League is vital—just ask teams like Arsenal, Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, or Aston Villa.”

He further noted, “Right now isn’t the moment to dive deep into players’ minds. We’ll focus on recovery on Sunday, prepare for Bournemouth, and assess how our players bounce back.”

Guardiola also reviewed their performance against Palace, saying, “It’s disappointing to lose when you feel you haven’t played your best. I’m sad, yes, but we also didn’t earn the win. Our players gave everything and we created many chances.” He pointed out that scoring is essential in the game: “If you don’t score, you need to defend well. Congratulations to Crystal Palace—they capitalized where we fell short.”

“Ideally, playing Bournemouth after winning the FA Cup would have been better,” he added. “Winning changes the narrative, but now we need to demonstrate our strength.” He reminisced about past performances, stating, “When we play poorly, I use the same line: ‘We didn’t deserve it.’ Last season, in the FA Cup final against Manchester United, we didn’t perform well—but this time, I don’t feel that way. I have no regrets.”
