The Trump administration is working to entice individuals who report “beautiful flightbacks” to their homeland. President Donald Trump mentioned on Monday that the Department of Homeland Security introduced an incentive for unauthorized immigrants to voluntarily leave.
“What we’re considering is offering each person a set amount, and we will facilitate a beautiful flight back to where they belong,” Trump stated.
Trump asserted that this initiative targets “hardworking” individuals who are committed to the country.
“Otherwise, it’s not for everyone, but it creates a pathway, you know, for them to go back to their country,” Trump explained.
“If they fail to meet that deadline, they will be removed from our country,” he remarked.
“It’s a more rigorous procedure, and we’re talking about millions of people involved here,” he added.
His comments follow an announcement from DHS, which encourages voluntary departures for unauthorized migrants. Registering for the self-declaration through the CBP Home app allows individuals to receive a $1,000 stipend after leaving. This approach is designed to be more financially sensible for U.S. taxpayers.
Choosing self-deportation is viewed as a dignified way to exit the United States, lessening the chances of interaction with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Despite some associated costs, employing the CBP Home app is expected to cut deportation expenses by around 70%. Currently, the average cost to detain and remove unauthorized immigrants stands at $17,121.
“If you’re in the country illegally, self-deportation presents the safest and most economical method to leave the United States and evade arrest,” stated Homeland Security Secretary Christie Noem.
“DHS is offering financial travel assistance and scholarships to illegal immigrants seeking to return home through the CBP Home App,” she remarked. “This is the safest option for our law enforcement agents and results in 70% savings for U.S. taxpayers. Download the CBP Home app now and register for self-deportation.”
DHS further noted that participating in self-declaration via the CBP app “might allow unauthorized immigrants the option to legally re-enter the U.S. in the future.”
