Person shot just minutes away from presidential debate venue in Philly

A shooting occurred on a SEPTA platform in downtown Philadelphia on Tuesday, just hours before a presidential debate between former President Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, leaving one person injured and a suspect in custody, according to local reports.

According to WPVI, the shooting happened around 3:30 p.m. on the platform of the Market-Frankford Line at the intersection of Market Street and 15th Avenue.

Authorities told WCAU that the victim was taken to Jefferson Hospital for treatment. The victim's condition was unknown at the time.

Police said the dispute escalated before the shooting. Fox News Digital has reached out to the Philadelphia Police Department for an update.

The shooting came ahead of a presidential debate scheduled for Tuesday between Harris and President Trump.

The debate will be held at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, about a five-minute walk from the scene of the shooting.

“The police activity has ended and trains have resumed normal service on the line,” SEPTA posted on X.

“The 5th Avenue station remains closed due to the presidential debate,” SEPTA said. “Continued delays are expected until full service is restored.”
