Pete Alonso expressed his appreciation for the contributions of two players from the Bronx as he looked forward to this year’s subway series, kicking off Friday night at Yankee Stadium.
The Mets’ offseason moves, including acquiring Juan Soto and Clay Holmes, addressed significant needs in both their lineup and pitching rotation. This change was also crucial for the Yankees, who are reaching the World Series for the first time in 15 years.
“Our organization does a great job of building and maintaining a winning culture,” Alonso noted. “To achieve that, you need exceptional players. Not only did we get Juan, but we got Clay as well, and I’m really glad they chose to come here. They performed incredibly well for the Yankees.”
Soto is back in the lineup after taking a break on Wednesday, returning to the familiar No. 2 spot ahead of Alonso. Meanwhile, Holmes will not have the opportunity to face his former team in this series, as he begins a stint on Wednesday.
