After hitting his 300th career home run, Pete Alonso had a memorable moment with three lucky Mets fans at Citi Field.
He launched a pitch from Kodai Senga 413 feet into the second deck of the left-field stands, bringing the game to a tie with one out in the ninth inning during the Mets’ eventual 7-5 loss to the Orioles, which went into extra innings.
The home run was met with an enthusiastic ovation from the crowd, followed by a curtain call from Alonso and chants of “Fire Stearns!” aimed at the president of baseball operations, David Stearns, for not bringing the fan-favorite first baseman back this offseason.
The trio of fans, who caught the milestone homer, were treated to some beers, signed memorabilia, and an open invitation to Camden Yards from Alonso himself.
In a video shared by SNY, Alonso expressed his gratitude to the fans and discussed where the ball landed.
“You guys want bats?” he asked, showing his willingness to sign anything they had. He went on to inscribe their jerseys with a note commemorating the event.
Having played with the Mets for seven seasons and being a five-time All-Star, Alonso autographed several baseballs and even emerged from the visitors’ clubhouse with bats for them to sign. He inquired about any special inscriptions they might like.
Alonso, who recently signed a substantial five-year, $155 million deal with the Orioles, also shared some cold beers and snapped a photo with the fans.
“Whenever you guys want to come to Camden, VIP tickets are on me,” he assured them, extending his appreciation.
This season, the 31-year-old Alonso has been impressive, with 36 homers and 101 RBIs, participating in every game, especially notable as his Mets replacement, Jorge Polanco, struggled due to injuries. Meanwhile, the Orioles’ victory brought them closer to the American League wild-card spot, while the Mets have already missed their postseason opportunity.
