Pete Alonso re-signs with Mets on two-year, $54 million contract

The Mets are running it back with one of their biggest homemade stars.

Pete Alonso agreed to a two-year $54 million to stay with the Mets, Post's John Heyman confirmed.

Includes a $10 million signature bonus.

The reunion gave Mets fans an extra gift after the team signed professional sports biggest contract and superstar slugger Juan Soto earlier this month.

After Soto's decision, Alonso remains one of the biggest names in the free agent market, with speculation being featured in future homes. The resolution ends the long contract staring between the two sides.

Alonso, 30, was a fan favorite during his six seasons with Queens, and he was a home run that won a game against the Brewers in Game 3 of the Wild Card Round, and was even more self-serving during the Mets' magic postseason run. I loved myself.

At the beginning of December, Mets owner Steve Cohen wanted Alonso to stay at the ball club when everything was said and done.

“I think he's a great bat and we're still engaged,” Cohen told reporters on Dec. 12. “I hope he stays.”

And Alonso talked about what he wanted to stay with the Mets before.

After they lost Game 6 to the Dodgers in the NLC, Alonso told reporters:

“I love this team. I love this organization. This fanbase has treated me very well, not just me, but my family,” Alonso said. “Now I'm just thinking about the group. Obviously we'll see what happens. Once we get there, we'll cross that bridge. But I love New York. … The memories we made here are just amazing. That's why we play baseball.”

Alonso has been a star of Amazin's since his arrival in 2019.

Other than Aaron's judge, no player has hit more home runs than Alonso in the last five years with 226.

The Polar Bear hit 53 home runs MLB rookie records during his first season and has the home run derby crown to his name.

Alonso appeared in all 162 regular season games last season. This was rarely what he played throughout his entire career.

He added four more home runs during the Mets' playoff run, hitting .273 with 10 RBIs.
