Kamala Harris Hints at 2028 Presidential Run
Former Vice President Kamala Harris recently made some eye-catching remarks at the first major gathering of individuals eyeing the Democratic nomination for the 2028 Presidential election.
During the National Action Network’s 35th anniversary conference on Friday, when asked by Reverend Al Sharpton if she might run in 2028, Harris replied, “Maybe. Maybe. I’m thinking about it…I’ll keep you posted.”
Harris, who took over the Democratic candidacy from President Joe Biden in 2024 but ultimately lost to Donald Trump, received enthusiastic support from the crowd, who chanted, “running again.”
Her travel schedules and comments seem to indicate a growing interest in the next presidential race.
Alongside her, former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg shared the stage. Other notable attendees included Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and California Representative Ro Khanna, with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly expected to appear on Saturday.
This event offered a platform for key figures within the Democratic Party to communicate directly with influential Black leaders and activists.
For over a year, the Democratic primary campaign has been in full swing, with potential candidates making early appearances in crucial states like New Hampshire and South Carolina.
The upcoming race for the Democratic nomination is anticipated to be quite competitive. Pritzker mentioned, “We’ve got a pretty good bench. We’ve actually invited so many guys to come here that have been on this stage or will continue to do so.”
Sharpton emphasized the importance of understanding candidates’ visions and actions, having invited all potential contenders.
Black voters have historically held significant sway in Democratic politics, as exemplified during the 2020 elections. Despite rough starts in the Iowa caucuses and New Hampshire primary, Biden’s strong support from Black voters during the South Carolina primary propelled him toward the nomination and ultimately the presidency.
The Republican National Committee has expressed criticism towards candidates attending Sharpton’s event, with spokesperson Kiersten Pels remarking that Democrats appear to be showcasing failed leaders as they begin the 2028 primary process.
