Pete Golding reveals he has evidence of tampering and acknowledges that Kiffin messages him excessively

Ole Miss coach brushes off LSU assistant situation as Fiesta Bowl approaches

MIRAMAR BEACH, Fla.

It seems that the friendship between Ole Miss coach Pete Golding and Lane Kiffin is strong enough to withstand some media ups and downs. Fans have been reacting strongly to the controversies surrounding the Rebels’ former head coach lately. A recent Vanity Fair article had Kiffin pointing out past racial issues as a reason some new staff might hesitate to move to Oxford.

Kiffin, visibly passionate during his comments, has attempted to clarify his statements in the weeks that followed. While it might be tempting for Golding to brush off Kiffin’s antics, their friendship runs deep, and some of Kiffin’s remarks reflect a certain civility.

Ole Miss Addresses Allegations of Tampering

There’s chatter that Golding has enough evidence regarding tampering, particularly related to issues involving former Clemson players. Dabo Swinney had previously made accusations against Ole Miss concerning player recruitment, which adds a layer of complexity.

Golding seems ready to provide evidence that could put the NCAA in a tough spot should they target him. If that happens, Ole Miss isn’t shy about calling out others involved in similar actions.

The Professional vs. Personal Dynamic

Golding sees a distinction between professional and personal perspectives on Kiffin. This doesn’t mean he won’t critique Kiffin’s comments, which he deemed somewhat misguided. “I don’t really have any reaction to that,” Golding remarked. “I’ve lived all over the Southeast, and everyone has their own challenges. I invite people to come to Oxford and see for themselves.”

Golding finds it a bit extreme when Kiffin claims the Rebels could have competed for a national championship if he hadn’t left for LSU. “No coach would admit that their absence improved a team’s chances,” Golding chuckled. He added that he didn’t believe any such notion affected their performance against Miami.

Conversations with Sarkisian

Recently, attention was drawn to Ole Miss due to various critical comments, including those from Kiffin and Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. Golding addressed Sarkisian’s remarks lightly, admitting he found them a bit out of context. “Have you ever tried basket weaving? I haven’t,” he said, while realizing the timing of Sarkisian’s call to clarify things was coincidental. Still, he expressed no serious concern.

Golding did confirm that Sarkisian reached out soon after the comments became public to explain himself and express regret, which Golding appreciated. On the topic of Kiffin’s remarks, there’s still uncertainty if Kiffin has contacted Golding about his Vanity Fair interview.

Interestingly, Golding mentioned that Kiffin frequently reaches out via text. “He messages me all the time, so I didn’t catch that one. But we’re good,” Golding noted, likening their relationship to a dynamic from “Step Brothers,” underscoring their somewhat chaotic yet close bond.
