Secretary of Defense nominee Pete Hegseth appeared at his confirmation hearing Tuesday shaken up by an orchestrated smear campaign against him promoted by mainstream media.
“A small number of anonymous sources were allowed to promote a smear campaign and agenda about me, because today's American left-wing media is sadly indifferent to the truth. All they have to do is [was] To destroy me. And why would they try to destroy me? Because I'm an agent of change, I'm a threat to them, and Donald Trump was willing to choose me, empower me, and bring the Pentagon back to what it was meant to be: war. ” Hegseth said.

Hegseth said people contacted reporters to defend him amid numerous hit stories against him based on anonymous sources, but their quotes were never published.
Meanwhile, he said, statements are coming on record from people who worked with him and supported him.
“It's men, it's women, it's black, it's white, it's all backgrounds. I'm proud of myself as a leader who respects people and is professional,” he said.
He said he knows the smear campaign wasn't about him and that most of it was aimed against President-elect Donald Trump, adding: “Trump has put up with the same thing for a much longer time. He had to endure it,” he added. In an incredibly powerful way. ”
“So, in a way, we knew it was coming. We didn't realize the depth of the injustice that was involved,” he said.
