Pete Hegseth Criticizes Woke Diversity at Navy's 250th Celebration

During an event in Virginia, War Secretary Pete Hegses emphasized President Trump’s focus on “America first and peace,” along with the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as part of the military’s 250th anniversary celebration.

Hegses received a warm welcome as he began speaking. The Norfolk Navy Station, known as the largest naval base globally, hosts thousands of sailors, with over 82,000 active duty personnel alongside more than 29,000 civilians.

Addressing the audience, who he called “the absolute best of America,” Hegses remarked, “Just look at all of you. It’s clear why the President often states we have the strongest, most powerful, most prepared military on Earth.”

He described the occasion as a fitting tribute to 250 years of the U.S. Navy, reiterating, “President Trump has laid out our mission: we must prioritize America’s interests while pursuing peace sensibly.”

“In the War Division, we focus on achieving peace through strength. For the Navy, this means increasing our number of sailors, submarines, and ships—essentially enhancing our military readiness,” Hegses added, noting the Navy and Marines reflect the country’s resilience.

However, he criticized the mantra of “diversity is our strength,” preferring to stress a collective mission among all service members. “You are not just civilians; you’re seamen, seals, Marines with a distinct purpose. Your true strength lies in your shared mission and dedication to your country,” he explained.

Hegses referenced John Paul Jones, a key figure in the early U.S. Navy, known for his famous declaration of “I haven’t begun to fight yet.” He tied this historical reference to the current commitment of military leaders who fight daily for the nation.

“We have a commander who ensures you are equipped to overcome enemies and achieve victory when needed. The President values your commitment and sacrifices, and as I tell all service members I encounter, he supports you,” he asserted.

He concluded with gratitude towards the crew and the military’s ongoing dedication. “On behalf of everyone in the Department of War, thank you for your commitment to the U.S. Navy. Here’s to another 250 years, and may God bless you and our great republic.”

Following Hegses’ address, First Lady Melania Trump made a brief statement, which preceded a 45-minute speech by President Trump.
