Pete Rose should have a chance at a Hall of Fame vote he will never receive.

Many longtime baseball enthusiasts felt a mix of hope and skepticism upon hearing that Pete Rose may finally be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame on Tuesday. But what are his actual chances?

It’s somewhat encouraging that he meets the technical requirements for a spot in the hall. Yet, even 36 years after his controversies came to light, it seems nobody can truly ascertain his thoughts on the matter. Unfortunately, Rose’s prospects appear to waver somewhere between slim and nearly impossible. It’s quite disheartening, really.

While Rose, along with others like Joe Jackson, has seen a change in eligibility status due to a recent ruling that removed 15 deceased players from the restricted list, it won’t lead to immediate induction for him. Applause for this decision was short-lived, as a follow-up announcement revealed that Rose won’t be eligible for consideration until December 2027, and his case will only be taken up by the Veterans Committee, not the writers.

This means writers, who have weighed the legacies of other baseball legends, are unlikely to support Rose’s candidacy. This includes renowned players who have doped to gain advantages, thereby tainting their records and profiting immensely at the expense of the game.
