Schauffele is in this position because of his record-setting 62 in the first round. His nine under par tied the lowest score in major round history (a record he already shares) and the lowest score of par.

But Shane Lowry matched that with a 62 in the third round on Saturday. He teed off more than 90 minutes early, eight strokes behind the final group, but entered the clubhouse just one stroke behind.Lowry (-13) tees off with Sahis Segala (-14) at 2:25 p.m.

Bryson DeChambeau is LIV’s only hope of winning this tournament, but his chip-in eagle on the 18th gives him momentum and moves him to 13 under. He will line up with defending FedEx Cup champion Viktor Hovland, also -13.

But 2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose shot a 64 on Saturday, his second-lowest score of the entire tournament behind two 62s. He and Robert McIntyre are tied for seventh at -12.

But it was only two years ago that Justin Thomas overcame a six-stroke difference in the final round to win his second PGA Championship. He is five strokes back, as is Tony Finau.

Other notable players within range are Rory McIlroy, Hideki Matsuyama, Tom Kim, and Jordan Spieth (who would score a career slam if he wins), all at -8.

Scottie Scheffler admitted he was still “pretty shaken up” a few holes into the second round after Friday’s arrest, but his 66 didn’t suggest it. However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing on Saturday, and he finished 2 over for the round, bringing his total to 7 under for the tournament.
