PGA Championship: Brooks Koepka gets blunt with rare poor performance

Brooks Koepka’s best score this week at the 2024 PGA Championship was a 5-under 66 on Sunday. However, his finishing was not up to standard and the LIV Golf captain did not want to talk to the media.

He is tied for 24th place with a total of 9 under par. Many people would be happy with a finish like that, but not Koepka. He hasn’t played in the top 25. Koepka plays to win.

“Not very good. I think that’s obvious,” Koepka said of his week at the PGA Championship.

The five-time major champion had a record of 67 wins, 68 losses and 74 wins, 66 losses this week.

Someone asked him about the difference between Saturday and Sunday, and in true Koepka fashion, he answered candidly.

“I don’t know, maybe eight shots,” Koepka said.

Saturday’s high score allowed him to escape pursuit. He shot a 3-over 74 with a double bogey, three bogeys and two birdies. The two positive tests occurred on the 17th and 18th, but by then it was too late.

“I don’t think I did anything good yesterday,” he said. “Usually when you play bad, there’s only one thing you’re doing, and then it could be a bad putt or a bad drive. Yesterday it was just a combination of everything. .”

On Saturday, he lost a stroke in every major strokes gained category. He lost -4.45 shots against the field and in total strokes gained he was T74.

On Sunday, the 34-year-old had six birdies and his only bogey on the par-3 14th. It was night and day difference for the nine-time PGA Tour champion.

He hit 9 of 18 greens on Saturday and 14 of 18 on Sunday. Koepka took 3.6 total shots from the field.

“I feel like I’m playing well. Yesterday was just unlucky timing,” Kopika said.

“But I felt like I was playing OK. I missed a lot of putts from within five feet on Friday and had some unlucky round yesterday, but apart from that I think I’m pretty close.”

Koepka’s next tournament will be at LIV Houston June 7-9, a few weeks before the world’s strongest player takes on No. 2 North Carolina Pinehurst at the U.S. Open.
