The PGA Tour issued a statement on Thursday thanking President Donald Trump for intervening in the tour's efforts to mediate business agreements between LIV Golf and Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF).
“We asked the President to be involved for the interests of the game, the interests of the nation, and all the countries involved,” a statement from PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monaghan and player director Tiger Woods said. I did. “We are grateful that his leadership has brought us closer to the final deal and paved the way for unifying male professional golf.”
After launching in 2022, Liv has loaned out large pay to several star golfers, including Jon Rahm, Bryson Dechambeau, Brooks Koepka, Ian Poulter and Sergio Garcia.
In June of that year, the PGA suspended 17 players who had pledged to play for LIV, and promised a future suspension for those who participated in the LIV event.

In June 2023, the PGA Tour and the Europe-based DP World Tour announced that there will be a “framework agreement” for the merger of PIF and LIV. However, the contract never came to fruition as the deadline for completing the transaction was passed at the end of that year.
It's been more than a year since then, but now Trump's intervention could bring that deal closer to realising.

Golf star Rory McIlroy said in November he believes that Trump's second president could “clear the road” for the deal between the PGA and LIV.
Trump has close ties with Saudi Arabia and Livgolf, with several of his 54-hole events being performed on Trump-owned courses.
Trump's intervention in the PGA-LIV negotiations was one of many major sports moments for the president this week.

Trump changed the course of women's sports history by signing “There are no men in women's sports.” An executive order in the Eastern White House room in front of national girl and female athletes on Wednesday Sports Day.
The NCAA immediately surrendered to Trump's orders and announced a new participation policy for transgender student-athletes on Thursday afternoon.
“Student-athletes assigned males at birth may not compete in female teams,” the new policy states.

It was also reported this week that Trump will become the first president in history to attend the Super Bowl.
The news sparked excitement from Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelse.
“It's always cool to be able to play in front of a sitting president,” Mahomes said. “People who are at the top of our country.”
Kelse called it “honor.”
“No matter who the president is, I think I'm excited because it's the biggest game of my life., that's pretty cool,” Kelse said.
