Trump says he will have Jack Nicklaus redesign Joint Base Andrews’ golf courses
President Donald Trump has announced plans to enhance the golf courses at Joint Base Andrews, which he described as “really bad” with “400-year-old grass.” The famed golfer Jack Nicklaus is set to design new “world championship” courses as part of this initiative, aimed at benefiting young people and disabled individuals, while improving military facilities.
Next month, Trump will step back into a familiar role as honorary chairman of the 2026 Presidents Cup, according to an announcement from the PGA Tour. This tournament will take place from September 22-27 at the Medinah Country Club near Chicago.
Having previously served as honorary chairman in 2017 at Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, Trump participated in the trophy presentation after the U.S. Team triumphed over the International Team, winning 19-11. PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp emphasized the tournament’s historical connection to world leaders, stating, “The Presidents Cup has a proud tradition of engaging world leaders from across the globe and across political lines, and President Trump’s involvement continues that legacy.”
“His participation will help elevate the event on the international stage while furthering our mission of bringing people together through the game of golf,” Rolapp added.
The upcoming tournament will feature a 12-member U.S. Team facing off against the International Team, led by U.S. captain Brandt Snedeker and Australian captain Geoff Ogilvy.
Trump shared his acceptance of the honorary chairmanship on Truth Social, noting, “At the request of the PGA Tour, and its great new Commissioner, Brian Rolapp, it is my Honor to accept being the Honorary Chairman of the upcoming Presidents Cup, which will take place at the Medinah Country Club in Chicago.”
In another post, Trump expressed his excitement for the event, stating, “This will be a particularly exciting event. Both teams are ‘loaded’ with talent. I look forward to being there, and greeting all of these fantastic athletes, on both teams!”
Trump becomes the seventh U.S. president to serve as honorary chairman of the Presidents Cup, following figures like Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, Bill Clinton, George H.W. Bush, and Gerald Ford.
