This week, the top 50 will compete in Colorado for the BMW Championship, the second FedEx Cup playoff event, and they’ll return to Castle Pines Golf Club to play on an 8,100-yard course 6,500 feet above sea level.
Following the FedEx St. Jude Championship, there was little change in the standings as there were only three new players in the top 50.
But his goal this week is to finish in the top 30 and qualify for the final playoff tournament, the Tour Championship in Atlanta. There will be plenty of competitive spirit in Colorado this week as many players are gunning for a huge prize at the Tour Championship.
This course should be a birdie fest and it will be a test of who can keep up. That being said, the bottom 10 players should have a really good week, with a few of them outside the top 30 and looking to do something special.
Here are our power rankings for the 10 PGA Tour players who could win this week’s BMW Championship.
10. Rory McIlroy
Last week was a tough one for Rory McIlroy, with many shocked at how poorly he played. He bounced back this week with a strong performance in Colorado.
McIlroy dropped a few places in Memphis after Hideki Matsuyama won, but he’ll still make it to Atlanta. Either way, he’s too competitive to let what happened last week happen two weeks in a row. Let’s hope he gets better and falls further down the list.
FedEx Cup rankings: 5th
9. Wyndham Clark
Wyndham Clark is in his hometown this week, confidence building after a T-7 finish at the Olympics and last week in Memphis, so could his courage be coming back at the right time to continue his strong run?

8. Ludvig Oberg
The young Swedish phenom was another quiet participant in Memphis. Ludvig Oberg finished T-40 and didn’t have his best week. He struggled to hit fairways and his short game wasn’t up to his usual standard. But like McIlroy, he’s not talented enough to repeat that feat two weeks in a row.
Oberg should be in great form on this course, and if he can get his putt under control it should be a good week for him.

7. Nick Dunlap
Nick Dunlap is in great form and excels at altitude. He won the Barracuda Championship, another event played in similar conditions, earlier this season.
He looked very good last week and had a chance going into Sunday. Dunlap finished tied for fifth, just barely cracking the top 50. The rookie comes into Atlanta in his first year on tour and is hoping to stand out among the elite.
Dunlap has had success in the area, winning the U.S. Amateur last year at Cherry Hills, just outside Castle Rocks, and he’s one of the players who could finish in the top 30.
FedEx Cup rankings: 48th
6. Tony Finau
Tony Finau has missed his chance to do something good for a long time. This week could be his chance. Tied for 16th in Memphis isn’t bad, but he’s going to have to give it his all to make an impression. He’s in the Atlanta tournament, but it wouldn’t hurt to do something big the week before.
FedEx Cup rankings: 14th
5. Taylor Pendris
Taylor Pendris is one of the wildcards this week. When he played on the Korn Ferry Tour, he competed and won at Castle Pines. He can use that experience to his advantage this week and move up the rankings. Expect a top 10 finish.
FedEx Cup rankings: 27th
4. Collin Morikawa
Another player who could win at any time is Collin Morikawa, who has seven top 10s in 2024 and could add another this week.
This course is perfect for his ball-striking ability, and if his putter works well, Morikawa could take home the BMW Championship.

3. Viktor Hovland
Viktor Hovland reminded people who he is last week, and although he fell short, he finished in a tie for second place and his confidence was boosted several fold.
He is becoming more consistent and should scare other players. Hovland could continue his winning streak from last year and win the BMW Championship. He made a big jump last week, from outside the top 50 to the top 30.
FedEx Cup rankings: 16th
2. Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele is one of the most confident players on the PGA Tour. He climbed the leaderboard on Sunday and finished tied for second with Hovland. If Schauffele continues to play at this level, he could win. It’ll be hard to find anyone who can stop him.

1. Scottie Scheffler
Rising star Scottie Scheffler is number one on this list. He wasn’t at his best in Memphis but still managed to finish alone in fourth place. It’s amazing to see him compete for the win almost every week.
If Scheffler can get his putting under control, he has a good chance of winning the tournament, maybe even running away with it.
