PGA Tour star Xander Schauffele cops to ’embarrassing’ defeat on golf course to Michael Jordan

Xander Schauffele has eight PGA Tour wins, an Olympic gold medal and a major championship to his name, but he admits he lost out to Michael Jordan’s competitive spirit.

Jordan’s prowess on the golf course is well known — he was often spotted out and about during his time with the Chicago Bulls and Washington Wizards, and he’s also a majority investor in Grove XXIII in Hobe Sound, Fla. Even at 61, he still seems to be beating the pros.

During a practice round before the Memorial Tournament last week, Schauffele was asked by former PGA Tour golfer Cole Knost if Schauffele had ever played a round with Jordan.

Schauffele revealed that he tried to “taunt” Jordan as much as he could.

“…And then he hit me,” he said. “Frankly. It’s embarrassing.”

He explained that Jordan took advantage of some mistakes on the final three holes.

“I dominated him on his stroke holes and we started talking trash and he got really quiet and focused,” Schauffele said. “Then he birdied 15 and 16 and beat me by zero strokes. And I was like, ‘I got it.'”
