Welcome to Playing Through’s daily ritual, Golf Talk Today.
Each day, the crew will discuss a different element of the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf and more.
The PGA Tour postponed the first round until Friday, holding a golf marathon to complete the Wyndham Championship at Sedgeville Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina.
The first round finished on Saturday morning and the second round is underway, so Tour players had better be prepared as some tough golf awaits.
The tournament is the final FedEx Cup event where points can be earned before the playoffs, and after this week’s competition, the top 70 will advance to the first round of the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis.
Fortunately, the weather is expected to remain favorable and the Tour will be able to complete the 72 holes.
Beau Hosler shot an incredible 10-under 60 in the first round to take the lead, but there are plenty of players behind him who are on a roll. After the first 18 holes, he was leading by two strokes. Hosler tees off for the second round at 3:28 p.m. ET.
Billy Horschel shot an 8-under 62 in the first round, the lowest score of his career, a mark he set last year at the Wyndham Championship.
Nick Taylor shot a 7-under 63 and was playing to improve his position in the FedExCup standings.
With 25 players shooting 66 or better in the first round, this is not only a golf marathon, but also a tournament where birdies are key.
Tee times begin around 8:40am this morning and run until 4:12pm EST. The sun sets around 8:16pm, so you’ll still be able to get your second round done, but you’ll need to play fast.
You can watch the Wyndham Championship on ESPN+ and the Golf Channel beginning at 1 PM ET. CBS Sports will begin coverage at 3 PM ET.
So, grab some coffee, grab a snack and get ready for a golf marathon at the PGA TOUR’s regular season finale, the Wyndham Championship.
