Retired British musician Phil Collins has joined the ranks of celebrities who criticize President Donald Trump, labeling him “nasty” and mentioning he’s considering writing a new song that portrays Americans as “fat people with guns.”
The former Genesis band member appeared on Piers Morgan’s Uncensored show in the UK on Sunday, shortly before his induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Morgan asked the “In the Air Tonight” artist for his opinion on President Trump, and the 75-year-old musician didn’t hold back.
“His whole manner is unattractive,” Collins commented. “Even when he insists he’s done nothing, you know. I think presidents, in the past, have been eloquent and graceful… and even if you disagree, there tends to be a level of respect. But when someone like Trump comes across as nasty, it kind of breeds dislike.”
Collins didn’t stop at criticizing the president; he also shared some thoughts about average Americans.
He revealed he has an idea for a song floating around in his mind, which he’s referring to as “Fat People with Guns,” and he scribbles it down to keep it fresh in memory.
Additionally, Collins entertained the dubious notion that President Trump might pursue a third term in office.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he tries to circumvent the two-term rule, you know, since American presidents are limited to two terms,” Collins remarked.
Trump has repeatedly addressed the notion of running for a third term and has dismissed it several times over the past year, despite making periodic jokes about it.
For instance, in October of last year, he stated quite clearly that he’s not eligible for another term. He reiterated this stance in May of that same year as well.
Just a month ago, he highlighted that the law is “very strong” against running for a third term.
