The Phillies acquired one of the best relievers on the market.
The Philadelphia Phillies announced Saturday that they have acquired right-handed pitcher Carlos Estevez in a trade with the Angels.
In return, the Angels will receive promising pitchers Sam Aldeguelli and George Classun.
Estevez, 31, has long been viewed as one of two late-inning relievers likely to be traded before Tuesday’s deadline, along with the Marlins’ Tanner Scott.
The pitcher is coming off an impressive season with a 2.38 ERA, 21 saves and a 6.40 strikeout-to-walk ratio and will be a great addition to a bullpen that already includes All-Star Jeff Hoffman.
Estevez throws a 96.4 mph fastball, which ranks in the 88th percentile in MLB. According to Baseball Savant.
Philadelphia traded hard-throwing relief pitcher Seranty Dominguez to the Orioles on Friday for outfielder Austin Hayes.
Now they’ve acquired Estevez as essentially a replacement and a clear upgrade, as he has posted an ERA under 4.00 each of the past three seasons.

He recorded a combined 51 saves over the past two years with Los Angeles.
Philadelphia’s relief corps was ranked in the middle of the pack in terms of reliever ERA (3.96) heading into Saturday’s game.
Meanwhile, the Angels will receive Aldeguelli and Classun, who are ranked No. 23 and No. 28 by MLB Pipeline as prospects.
