The Mets found more ninth-inning magic, but so did the Phillies.
Nick Castellanos hit a walk-off single, giving the Mets a 7-6 loss in Game 2 and tying the NLDS at 1-1.
Mark Vientos hit his second game-tying two-run homer of the game off Matt Stram in the ninth inning, tying the game at 6-6.
However, Castellanos reached Tyler Megill in the ninth inning after giving up walks to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper.
The Mets took the lead twice. The first was in the sixth inning when Luis Severino took a three-run lead, and the second was in the eighth inning when Edwin Diaz took a one-run lead.
In the bottom of the seventh inning, with the Phillies with two outs and two runners on, Kyle Schwarber stepped to the plate, and the Mets pulled Jose Butt in favor of Diaz, and Schwarber hit a triple to save the day.
But Diaz collapsed in the eighth inning, allowing a one-out walk to Bryce Harper and a single to Nick Castellanos, before Bryson Stott's triple gave Philadelphia a 5-4 lead.
Diaz was then selected to replace Tyler Megill, and the runner he took over allowed a score on a fielder's choice.
With the Mets leading 3-0, Severino shut out the Phillies in 5 2/3 innings, but after a single by Trea Turner, Bryce Harper put the Phillies ahead with a huge two-run home run to center field, and Nick Castellanos reversed. He tied the score with a two-back solo shot.
After six innings, Severino pitched well with six hits, no walks, and seven strikeouts.
Brandon Nimmo responded immediately with a solo home run in the seventh inning, but the lead didn't last long.
Vientos opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the third inning, and in the top of the sixth inning, Pete Alonso's solo home run to the wrong field extended the Mets' lead.
