Hold your breath, Phillies fans.
Bryce Harper limped off the field after recording the final out of the Phillies’ 7-4 loss to the Marlins on Thursday night at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.
While running to hit a grounder, Harper began to limp, grabbed his left hamstring and stumbled back to the dugout.
“I just felt a little bit of soreness in the muscle underneath my hamstring,” Harper said. “I’ll get some images tomorrow and see how it feels. We’ll see how it feels tomorrow and go from there.”
“I’ve never had a soft-tissue injury before,” Harper said, adding that he felt the discomfort about halfway down the first-base baseline.
Asked how worried he was, he was guarded.
“I don’t know,” he said. “Like I said, I’ve never felt anything like this before. It hurts.”
That same day, the slugger was selected by fans to be the National League’s starting first baseman in the All-Star Game on July 16 in Texas.
Harper is batting .305/.402/.585 with a .987 OPS, 20 home runs and 57 RBIs.
