Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson and umpire Mike Estabrook were ejected after a heated argument during a Father’s Day game against the Baltimore Orioles.
With the Orioles leading 8–2 at Camden Yards, the Phillies were not doing well in the top of the sixth inning, and things got worse when Estabrook overturned a call on Phillies pitcher Garrett Stubbs for a hit by pitch after consulting with the other umpires on the field.
Thompson had already raved about the strike zone behind home plate that day before Estabrook overturned the call and allowed Stubbs to return to home plate.

Things heated up when Thompson came out of the dugout to ask Estabrook for an explanation, the climax coming when Thompson, who had been clearly yelling at Estabrook, pointed his finger at Estabrook and nearly stabbed him in the chest while yelling.
As a result, Estabrook quickly reversed course and took Thompson out of the game, leaving the veteran coach furious.
But what we usually see in these situations is a coach venting his anger and the refs just taking it in. Estabrook thought differently, trying to give the ball back to Thompson in a heated moment.

Umpire Laz Diaz waited for the argument to continue for a few moments before intervening and sending Thompson off to the clubhouse.
After things settled down, replays of the play showed that the ball did not hit him and Estabrook was correct in sending Stubbs back to bat.
The Phillies lost 8-3, marking their fourth loss in their last six games.

Still, despite the losses, the Phillies still have the best record in the National League. They are 47-24 this season, but are worse on the road than at home, going 20-14 on the road.
