Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson was interviewed in-game at a spring training game on Wednesday, but he didn't receive many words.
That's because he saw pitcher Jess Luzard give up consecutive home runs on three consecutive pitches.
The Phillies were visiting the Detroit Tigers in Florida when Thomson turned on the headset at the bottom of the second inning of the scoreless game.

During the interview, Jamai Jones went deep into Luzard, causing a typical home run call by the ESPN crew.
“It looked like a changeup,” Thomson intervened awkwardly.
Next batter, Andy Ibañez, continued his own home run in roughly the same spot.
Thinking they had time, Carl Labeck thanked Thomson for “sticking” the crew of the broadcast through the back-to-back jack. Then Gleyber Torres came to the plate.
Torres also went deeper across the left field wall, and Thomson was literally pointless.
It was two innings with six runs for Detroit. This repeated the total over three innings. The game ended with Detroit's 17-7 victory.

After posting a 5.00 ERA in just 12 starts that he was injured in the 2024 season, it wasn't what Luzard wanted. He made a promise to the Miami Marlins and posted a 3.48 ERA in 2022 and 2023. He was initially a prospect for Auckland track and field.
However, after his nasty 2024 campaign, the Marlins traded him for their NL East Rivals in December.
Luzard considers the latter, who placed second in the NL Cy Young Award poll last season with a 2.57 ERA, to be the No. 5 starter for a stacked rotation team led by Co-Ass Aaron Nola and Zack Wheeler.

Thomson replaced Joe Girardi as the Phillies manager in 2022. This proved to be a turning point for the season. They won the pennant.
