Phillies nearly complete dramatic comeback against Dodgers while Biden watches

Former President Joe Biden made an appearance during Game 2 of the National League Division Series, where the Philadelphia Phillies faced off against the Los Angeles Dodgers. It was a close match, with the Phillies starting strong, leading 4-1 in the bottom of the ninth inning. They managed to get some hits, narrowing the gap. But, a miscalculated sacrifice bunt turned what could have been a game-tying moment into a missed opportunity.

In a tense moment with two outs, Trea Turner, who has the highest batting average in the National League, was up to bat. He hit a grounder to the second baseman, Tommy Edman. Although Edman’s throw was short, Freddie Freeman was quick to scoop it up, securing a victory for the Dodgers with a final score of 4-3.

The Dodgers now lead the best-of-five series 2-0 and will return for Game 3 on Wednesday.

Biden was spotted sitting in a section of Citizens Bank Park, and fans captured his presence on social media. Interestingly, he hadn’t attended sporting events during his presidency from 2021 until January but had done so frequently while serving as vice president under Barack Obama. Jill Biden, on the other hand, participated in some recent games, including the 2022 World Series showdown between the Phillies and the Houston Astros.

Historically, Biden has been a sports fan, even attending a Georgetown vs. Duke college basketball game back in 2010 with Obama. He has missed a couple of opportunities to throw the first pitch, notably in 2009 when he skipped it during an Orioles game against the Yankees but did catch a Phillies vs. Yankees World Series game that same year with Jill.

The Dodgers defeated the Phillies in their earlier Game 1, with a score of 5-3, followed by a well-fought pitcher duel in Game 2, where neither team scored for the first seven innings. Phillies starter Jesus Luzardo faced challenges, ultimately allowing four runs in the frame that made a crucial difference in the game’s outcome.

Now, the winner of this series will face off against either the Milwaukee Brewers or the Chicago Cubs.
