Phillies Pitcher Daniel Roberts Hospitalized After Collapse

Daniel Roberts, a relief pitcher for the Phillies, is currently in stable condition following a collapse during his first bullpen session of spring training on Sunday.

The 31-year-old suffered a heart attack and fell after pitching at the team’s facility in Clearwater, Florida. Medical personnel quickly attended to him.

Reports indicate that trainers utilized a defibrillator as they transported him to the hospital, where he was confirmed to be stable and conscious.

Interestingly, he remained alert throughout the incident and managed to exit the field on his own, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

This is not Roberts’ first scare; he experienced a similar heart attack last October. At that time, the Phillies’ medical team performed CPR and used an external defibrillator to revive him.

Following that episode, he received an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), which had to be “triggered” during the recent incident.

MLB.com reported that hospital staff assessed the device’s data after his arrival.

Roberts had mentioned how close he felt to the organization, highlighting their consistent support during his recovery. He had signed a minor league contract with the Phillies last month and was participating in training as a non-roster invitee.

“They kept in touch throughout the winter,” he stated, expressing gratitude for the care he received. “I wasn’t sure I could play this season, but if I could, I wanted to do it here because the Phillies stood by me.”

While he was eager to return, further medical evaluations mean his upcoming bullpen session has been delayed until next Sunday. It’s a rollercoaster, I guess—exciting but also quite shaky for him and the team.
