Phillips says he doesn’t know ex-consultant allegedly behind fake Biden robocall: ‘I’m repulsed’

Democratic presidential candidate Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.) said he was unaware of the election consultant who was allegedly involved in a fake robocall against President Biden in New Hampshire in January.

“And first of all, let me condemn this,” Phillips said Friday in an interview with NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo on his show. “I don’t know the consultant guy who did this. He was repulsed. I think it’s disgusting. It’s necessary. [artificial intelligence] Because this is happening all around us all the time. ”

Steve Cramer served as a consultant to the Minnesota Democratic Party’s campaign and helped gather signatures in Pennsylvania and New York, according to the Phillips campaign. He was named in an NBC report for allegedly hiring a magician to create a fake artificial intelligence-generated robocall with the president’s voice before the New Hampshire primary.

In the fake robocall, Biden is heard telling voters to “save” their votes in November and forego the primary in late January, saying that participating in the primary instead is a sign of former President Donald Trump’s reelection bid. I was told it would be helpful.

Magician Paul Carpenter told NBC in an interview that he created the phone but did not distribute it.

“I was in a situation where someone offered me money to do something, and I did it. There was no malicious intent,” Carpenter said. “I didn’t know how to distribute it.”

Phillips’ campaign said in a statement that if Kramer’s alleged actions are true, he acted “of his own free will” and they “have no connection to our campaign.”

“The fundamental concepts of our campaign are the importance of competition, choice and democracy.” “We are outraged to learn that Mr. Kramer is allegedly behind this call, and if the allegations are true, we categorically condemn his actions.”
