One of golf’s biggest parties returns to the PGA Tour this week, with the WM Phoenix Open once again taking center stage.
Every year, organizers of the WM Phoenix Open tournament build a large stadium around the 16th hole at TPC Scottsdale, a gentle 163-yard par 3.
Fans rush to the makeshift arena at dawn to be one of 20,000 lucky fans. But as the years go by, the 16th hole gets louder and crazier.
Every time someone hits a hole-in-one, alcoholic beverages can rain down on the green. Other highlights include Justin Thomas teeing off wearing a Kobe Bryant jersey, Harry Higgs lifting his shirt To acknowledge the fans.
As a result, the WM Phoenix Open has begun to be compared to the Ryder Cup, where American and European fans heckle, shout and jeer the players on the course.
However, the British Isles hosts the British Open Championship and while the fan experience is always great, orderly conduct must be observed.
