Photos: Solar flare makes aurora borealis visible across the globe
A massive solar storm struck the United States and the world Friday night, making it the largest in decades.
The intensity of the solar storm dyed the night sky in a variety of colors, including pink, purple, and green.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) reported late Friday that the solar storm would develop for hours to days and cause flares of light across the planet.
“We’re really nervous here because we’re expecting shock after shock,” said Brent Gordon, director of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Services Division.
