Things got hotter on a cold night in Pittsburgh.
Nationals Reliever Jorgelopez appeared with Pirates star Bylan Reynolds, who came on top to join outfielder Andrew McCutchen, and both benches were empty at PNC Park on Wednesday night.
After allowing two hits and two runs in the first two-thirds of the six innings, he excavated Reynolds into the first pitch sinker.
After that, after three pitches, Lopez got high and McCutchen almost hit his head, but the 2013 NL MVP got in the way to avoid a 92 mph sinker.
When the judges gathered to decide the best request, the Pirates bench and Lopez began barking, leading to both bench meetings on the mound.
In the middle of all this, Pirates outfielder Tommy Fam had to hold him down to Onil Cruz.
Lopez was thrown out of the game and things eventually settled.
However, that got worse for the right side as McCutchen walked and Cruz followed in the Grand Slam. That means two more runs were added to Lopez’s ledger.
The incident is less than a year since Lopez’s notable gloves were thrown into the stands after an ejection at Citifield, where he was a member of the Mets.
After the game, Lopez appears to have called the Mets “probably the worst team of all the worst teams” or “probably the worst teammate of all the F-King MLB.”
He was eventually designated for allocation by the Mets.
Lopez later used social media to clarify the incident.
“I didn’t intend to make a light par for the New York Mets organization, so I want to make it clear to my post-game comments,” wrote the 31-year-old Reliever. “In that interview, I was openly talking about my frustration with my personal performance and how it felt, becoming the worst teammate in the entire league.
“Unfortunately, my efforts to deal with the media in English have created some confusion and headlines that do not reflect what I am trying to express.”
On eight outings this year, he has a 10.57 ERA.
Pittsburgh won Wednesday’s game 6-1.
