A Pittsburgh Pirates usher has been suspended after a shocking incident took place during a boxing match at PNC Park on Sunday. A video captured the usher in a heated argument with fans, which escalated into him physically confronting them.
In the footage, it appears the usher attempted to engage with a couple of fans before employees intervened. However, moments later, the usher retaliated, using his belt to whip one of the fans multiple times.
The video was initially shared on TikTok but has since been removed, though it continues to circulate on various social media platforms.
Officials provided context, stating that the verbal altercation transpired between two male guests and a female food service employee as fans were exiting. The video shows how staff at the ballpark tried to intervene on her behalf.
“We are aware of the unfortunate incident that occurred following the match,” an official statement read. “The employee’s behavior was completely unacceptable, and he was immediately removed from the situation. An investigation is underway.”
This incident comes just days after another alarming event where a fan, Kaban Markwood, a 20-year-old former college football player, plunged over 20 feet onto the right-field wall during a game against the Chicago Cubs.
According to organizers of Markwood’s GoFundMe campaign, there’s been a slight improvement in his condition. Organizer Jennifer Phillips remarked, “After everything he has experienced since the accident on Wednesday night, this progress is nothing but a miracle. He still has a long way to go, but today brought us a moment of hope.”
Amid all this chaos, the Pirates continue to struggle on the field, currently sitting at the bottom of the NL Central Division with a record of 12-25.
