Pistons and Cavaliers game postponed because of a prolonged horn issue

Pistons Edge Cavaliers in Overtime Amid Horn Malfunction

The matchup between the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers took an unusual turn at Little Caesars Arena on Friday night, with the Pistons ultimately claiming a 122-119 victory in overtime. The game faced a significant delay due to a persistent horn that blared continuously for 13 minutes during a timeout, leaving everyone a bit bewildered.

It all started when the horn went off to signal the teams back to play while the Pistons were ahead 65-64. Unfortunately, the noise didn’t stop, even after a power surge caused the scoreboard to go haywire. Finally, the horn ceased, and the crowd erupted in applause as arena staff managed to shut down the faulty scoreboard overhead.

By the time the game resumed—18 minutes later, if you can believe it—the scoreboard was reset to zero. It was a bit amusing, really, as the scoring staff improvised with a manual air horn when play finally began again, and the big scoreboard was temporarily turned off.

A brief huddle took place between the coaches, J.B. Bickerstaff for the Pistons and Kenny Atkinson for the Cavaliers, before officials decided to continue without the main scoreboard. Interestingly, it came back on soon after the game resumed, which seemed to add a layer of drama to an already chaotic evening.

The delays and overtime dragged the entire match to a whopping three hours and 22 minutes. Cleveland, leading by nine points with just under three minutes left in regulation, faced a turning point when Cade Cunningham fouled out. The Pistons capitalized on this, outscoring the Cavaliers 16-7 down the stretch to force the overtime.

For the Pistons, Cade Cunningham delivered a strong performance with 25 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists—prior to his exit due to fouls. Jalen Duren shone in the overtime, scoring an impressive 33 points and grabbing 16 rebounds. On the other side, the Cavaliers were missing key players, including James Harden and Donovan Mitchell, for the second game in a row. Jarrett Allen stepped up with 25 points and nine rebounds, while Evan Mobley added 23 points and 12 rebounds.

As both teams prepare for another matchup soon—Cleveland will host Detroit on Tuesday—the evening stood out not just for the nail-biting game but for the unexpected comedic interruption that had everyone talking.
