Skyler Thompson, quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers, faced a robbery and was injured in Dublin, Ireland on Friday while readying for a game against the Minnesota Vikings.
The 28-year-old was attacked late that night, resulting in minor injuries. Reports surfaced on Sunday regarding the incident.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Thompson is doing okay and has returned to his team following the event.
Steelers’ senior communications director, Bart Roten, mentioned, “We are aware of the situation involving Skylar Thompson on Friday night in Dublin. Currently, we are collaborating with NFL Security to gather more information about what happened, so we have no further comment,” as reported.
At the moment, Thompson is in his first season with the Steelers. He was once a seventh-round pick and played three games, including one playoff match, with the Miami Dolphins. Last season, he had a decent start with them as well.
Beyond the minor injuries from the robbery, Thompson had previously dealt with a hamstring injury a few weeks back.
The Steelers and Vikings were set to clash on Sunday morning for what was being dubbed the NFL’s first game in Dublin, with future matchups planned for Brazil, Madrid, Berlin, and London.
