Players Championship odds, picks: Scottie Scheffler eyes third straight title as favorite

The first of six major events on the 2025 golf calendar has appeared.

The annual Players Championship at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, features 144 best players on the PGA Tour. This week, 48 of the top 50 players in the official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) are on the field. This includes Laurie Canter, a former LIV golf player who left the Saudi support circuit in 2023 and thrived on the DP World Tour over the past year. Canter won twice. This helped the OWGR rankings rise to the top 50. This exempts players from rankings within the top 50 of OWGR.

However, this week's biggest storyline revolves around Scotty Schaeffler, the world's number one issue. Scotty Schaeffler not only aims for his third straight win at the player, but also his first victory in 2025. Schaeffler not only hit green from green to tee at Bay Hill last week, but also prevented ice cold putters from threatening the winner's circle. He came in 11th place in the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Still, Schaeffler arrives at TPC Sawgrass as a massive favorite.

All aspects of being selfish from this season's tee Matsuyama Hideki The game was world class. The winner of the 2021 Masters was sixth in the Stroke Tour and second in the Scramble. His short match is highly underrated.

Another world class thing? Matsuyama's resume at TPC Sawgrass.

In his 10 career in players, Matsuyama had four top-10 finishes and took his first round lead in 2020 before Covid-19 cancelled the tournament. Matsuyama also has the highest scoring average in TPC Sawgrass since 2019. Average score: 69.5golf statistician Justin Ray. This does not include 9 under 63 Matsuyama, who was fired on March 12, 2020.

That's all that says Matsuyama will win on Sunday if he can find the fairway more consistently from the tee.

History says that hot players generally find ways to win with players. Obviously, it starts a major that is not intended for a tournament of the season.

It's as chalk as it gets, but I'll go with it Scotty Scheffler. I'm not going to vote in a way that works against history.

Three peats of Scotty and Field, literally and Sunday history.

Funderer odds: Schaeffler won with +400

I went a little outside the box and I was rolling together Keegan Bradley this week.

His stunning 7-under 29 on the challenging front nine at Bay Hill last Sunday certainly caught some eye. Certainly, his history in the Player Championship was not great. He last cut in this tournament because he returned in 2022.

Still, due to how he ended up with the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the captain of the Ryder Cup is an interesting pick heading for the TPC Sawgrass.

Funder El odds: Bradley wins with +5000
