The Raiders may be aiming to move on from one of their precious young tight edges.
Las Vegas is “attempting” Trade Michael Mayer According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, “many teams are interested.”
Las Vegas has invested heavily in Mayer using the 35th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft.
Just a year later, the Raiders selected Georgia's tight end Block Bowers with the 13th pick.
But the Bowers were essentially all sorts of studs, and Mayer took the back seat.
Mayer also still missed six games in past seasons.
“The most important rule is that football isn't bigger than life. At least for me, it wasn't. I had to understand a few things. That's what I did and I'm standing up again,” Mayer said as he returned to November from his mysterious absence.
Before his absence, he had tallied four catches for 21 yards in the first three games of the Raiders' season. After returning, he raised his season's stats to 21 catches for 156 yards.
In his rookie year, he brought in 27 receptions and two touchdowns for 304 yards in 14 games.
After addressing personal issues from this past season, Mayer said in a mere kind words to the Raiders organization, “we couldn't ask for a better organization, a better support system.”
Mayer aims to find the same type of home if he is shipped to another team.
Mayer doesn't produce much at the NFL level, but he's only 23 years old and was a national to the Battle Irish three years ago.
Mayer has earned over 2,000 yards and 18 touchdowns in three college seasons, remaining a compelling production in his third year in the NFL.
