Plurality Say Thanksgiving Plans Affected by Price Increases

A plurality of Americans say their Thanksgiving plans will be affected by rising prices, the latest weekly survey found. economist/YouGov found.

In the survey, taken November 17-19, 2024 asked Respondents asked, “Have your Thanksgiving plans been affected by price increases this year?”

37% of respondents said yes that their Thanksgiving plans were affected by price increases. A further 36 per cent said their plans would not be affected, and a further 8 per cent said they were unsure.

Forty-seven percent of Republicans said their plans would be affected by rising prices, and 35% of independents said the same. Three in 10 Democrats (29%) also acknowledged that their Thanksgiving plans have been affected by rising prices. But 47% of Democrats say it won't affect their plans, a sentiment shared by 32% of independents and 30% of Republicans.

Remarkably, a quarter of Vice President Kamala Harris' voters admit that rising prices are affecting their vacation plans. 48% of those who voted for President Trump also held the same opinion.

The survey also asked respondents whether they expected political discussion at Thanksgiving celebrations. A majority (61%) said they did not expect such a thing, but 14% said there would be a debate. Among Democrats, Republicans, and independents, Democrats are the most likely to expect political debate at 19%, followed by Republicans at 14% and independents at 11%.

On the same Thanksgiving theme, 20% of respondents said “almost all” of the party attendees voted for President-elect Trump, while 16% said “almost all” supported Harris.

The survey was conducted among 1,595 U.S. adults. This has a margin of error of +/- 3.4% as Americans continue to fight price increases under the leadership of Presidents Biden and Harris, facing a 147% increase in egg prices and a 50% increase in gas prices since then. This was a result in spite of the situation. Biden and Harris took office in January 2021.
