The hosts of the podcast *Pod Save America* took aim at Vice President J.D. Vance during an interview with CNN, suggesting he’s not a viable contender for the 2028 presidential race. Former Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau, ex-White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vieter, former press secretary for the National Security Council, spoke with Dana Bash about the political landscape following recent Democratic victories against Republican opponents in various state and local elections.
Bash referenced a recent Politico article which indicated that Senator Marco Rubio privately considers Vance a potential top candidate for 2028. Vieter responded bluntly, stating, “Vance is terrible. Nobody likes him. Not even Republicans or Democrats. I wonder if his family enjoys his company.” He accused Vance of being opportunistic, willing to say anything for power. “He readily writes lengthy op-eds when Democrats criticize him but stays silent when extremists in his own party attack him,” he added.
Fox News Digital reached out to Vance’s office for a response, but didn’t receive one immediately. The *Pod Save America* team, sometimes referred to as the “Obama Brothers,” continued their critique, with Favreau noting Rubio’s rumored plans to align with Vance in the 2028 election. Vieter had previously expressed similar frustrations about Vance’s political prospects.
In a late October conversation with former Bravo star Jennifer Welch on the *I’ve Had It* podcast, Vieter voiced his irritation over being defeated by what he sees as an unjustifiable Republican rival.
Vieter remarked, “It’s difficult to be criticized by the biggest losers out there,” adding that there’s a popular misconception regarding the appeal of MAGA that frustrates him. Welch chimed in by labeling Vance a “failed drag queen,” accusing some Republicans of pushing far-right Christian values to mask their flaws. Vieter agreed, suggesting many struggle with repressed feelings that lead them to behave cruelly towards others.
