Podcast hosts criticize Democratic leaders as cowardly in an interview.

In a recent NPR interview, podcast hosts Jennifer Welch and Angie “Pumps” Sullivan, known for their show “I’ve Had It,” expressed frustration regarding the Democratic leadership’s disconnect from its base. They contend that party leaders aren’t adequately supporting minority communities, failing to confront Donald Trump, and neglecting young progressive candidates.

Sullivan pointed out that while leaders like Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer may issue strongly worded letters, that’s just not enough. “We need more action than a strongly worded letter,” she emphasized.

The podcast, which has gained traction amid disappointing polling for Democrats, often takes shots at both parties, but its critiques of the Democratic establishment seem to resonate widely, boosting its social media following.

Welch specifically warned that if established figures like Schumer and Booker don’t step up, they’ll leave a gap that could be filled by a figure resembling Trump. She remarked, “If Mr. Hakeem and Mr. Chuckles… don’t come together, a fraudster who looks a lot like Donald Trump will come in.”

Sullivan highlighted the podcast’s casual, relatable tone as part of its charm, suggesting it’s just like two friends chatting—and not taking themselves too seriously. Welch, despite her conflict with Trump, noted that his communication style has influenced their discussions, indirectly or maybe directly. “I think he’s a compulsive liar. But the way we talk is actually the way Trump has been on his podcast for the last 10 years,” she mentioned.

Welch has made headlines for her candidness, including her recent critique of Senator Cory Booker for not being more outspoken regarding Israeli policies. In a memorable exchange, she pressed Booker on whether he considered Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu a war criminal, calling his evasiveness cowardly. “That’s a cowardly answer. The answer is objectively yes,” she stated.

Moreover, Welch has stirred controversy for her reactions to comments made by left-wing activists and has pointedly remarked that the Democratic establishment needs to recognize the passionate sentiments of their constituents. She asserted, “Either you jump on this idea, or we’re going to come after you the same way we’re going after MAGA. Period.”

At a recent celebration following the election of Zoran Mamdani as mayor, she reflected on the diversity of America, noting that a homogeneous culture would be unexciting and that acceptance of this diversity is vital for both entertainment and representation.
