Drone Incident in Polish Airspace
Polish defense officials reported that a drone was shot down after it breached the country’s airspace early on Monday. Cesari Tomczk, Poland’s deputy minister of defense, mentioned on X that there’s an operation in progress to address objects that have illegally crossed into Polish airspace.
Tomczk added that both the Polish president and the prime minister had been informed about the situation. Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Wwaddys Wau Kosiniak Kamissiz stated that Polish military forces are in constant communication with NATO’s headquarters.
A related incident involved Ukrainian drones allegedly colliding with a nuclear power plant during a strike on Independence Day, as reported by Russia.
In response to the downed drones, Kosiniak Kamissiz noted that the territorial defense forces are actively searching for wreckage on the ground.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that he remains in close contact with both the president and the defense minister, receiving updates directly from the operational commander. The Polish military’s operational orders connected the drone breaches with ongoing Russian attacks in Ukraine.
The command stated, “Due to the Russian Federation’s assault on Ukraine, there has been a significant violation of Polish airspace by drone-type objects.” This situation has raised concerns, leading to an emphasis on enhancing defensive measures.
As of now, some of the detected drones have already been shot down, and efforts are underway to locate their potential crash sites. The Polish military is closely monitoring the circumstances, ensuring readiness for any further necessary actions.
