Poland began their campaign by losing by the odd goal in three against the Netherlands, while Austria were hugely impressive in their defeat at the hands of Euro 2024 favourites France. Although both teams lost, their head coaches, Michal Probierz and Ralf Rangnick, will have seen enough from their teams to feel confident of coming out on top of this crucial encounter.

Group D situation: If either team loses and the Netherlands and France draw tonight, the loser here will not qualify for the knockout stage.
If Poland lose and France beat the Netherlands, Lewandowski and Co. will be out. If Austria lose and the Netherlands win, Ralf Rangnick’s men will be out with one game in hand.
Poland: Robert Lewandowski is poised to give Poland a major boost upon his return against Austria, and Wojciech Szczesny is adamant that Poland’s record goalscorer’s mere presence on the pitch will strike fear into opponents. Ben Fischer reports from Berlin…
Robert Lewandowski: Poland’s star striker doesn’t figure prominently in a lineup for a team that sleeps more than it sleeps – Robert Lewandowski is fit enough to be on the bench, despite pre-match reports from team HQ – while Adam Buksa and Krzysztof Piatek are up front for Michal Probieś’s side.

Latest team news
Poland are ready to welcome back iconic striker Robert Lewandowski, who was forced to miss the opening game against the Netherlands with a thigh injury sustained in their final training match before the tournament. Karol Swiderski, who came off the bench in the second half of Poland’s game against the Netherlands, is likely to start alongside Lewandowski.
Marko Arnautovic, who came on as a substitute for Michael Gregoritsch an hour after Austria’s loss to France, is a likely starter for Austria. Coach Ralf Rangnick deployed Marcel Sabitzer in an unfamiliar position on the left of midfield in that game, and the Borussia Dortmund man could be called upon to play in that role again. If he moves more centrally, Patrick Wimmer could play on the wing.
Group D: Poland vs. Austria
Poland and Austria meet at the Olympiastadion in Berlin after losing their opening matches, knowing another loss would almost certainly end their chances of reaching the knockout stages of the tournament.
Poland began this campaign with a narrow 3-0 defeat to the Netherlands, while Austria’s highly impressive defeat to France, the favourites to win Euro 2024. Despite both teams losing, coaches Michal Probieś and Ralf Rangnick will have had enough to give their teams confidence that they can win these crucial matches.
Kick-off in Berlin is at 5pm BST, but in the meantime we’ll be bringing you all the team news and preparations.
