Pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati misses Olympic final after manhood catches crossbar

Something rather unpleasant has happened to stand in the way of French pole vaulter Anthony Ammirati’s progress towards his Olympic dream.

On Saturday at the Paris Olympics, Ammirati attempted a 5.70-metre jump on his third attempt but his genitals, still wearing his shorts, hit the bar, causing it to fall.

The 21-year-old, who is set to win gold at the 2022 World Athletics U-20 Championships, had previously cleared two heights but a mistake meant he missed the qualifying mark, leaving NBC commentators unsure about his participation at the world championships.

Ammirati finished in 12th place with a total score of 5.60 from four attempts.

His knee was hit by the bat on his next attempt at 5.70.

This is the only event he will be competing in at this Olympics.
