K-9 Hero Helps Rescue Missing Boy in North Carolina Blizzard
A K-9 officer in North Carolina is being praised after playing a crucial role in rescuing a missing teenager with special needs during a severe winter storm that struck the area.
Bo, a bloodhound from the Gastonia Police Department, was called to action on Saturday night when authorities reported a missing 13-year-old boy who has autism. This boy left home without appropriate clothing, and, well, it was really cold out. The weather was, um, brutal, to say the least, making the situation quite serious.
Using a piece of the boy’s clothing, K-9 Bo was able to follow his scent, guiding his handler, Sgt. Roland, through the snowy terrain. The collaboration between the Gastonia Police, Gastonia County Sheriff’s Office, and Gastonia Emergency Medical Services was impressive. They established a perimeter around the boy’s home while Bo and other officers searched for him.
Eventually, while Bo continued his search, the boy wandered back into the secured area and was safely located by GEMS personnel. They spotted him approaching, and thankfully, he was reported to be cold but without any injuries.
Authorities expressed gratitude for the teamwork that led to the safe return of the child. “This success was made possible by quick action, strong teamwork, and the dedication of everyone involved,” the police department noted alongside a picture of the snow-covered Bo.
The storm that blanketed Gastonia resulted in nearly a foot of snow, significantly impacting the area. Reports indicate that this storm tied Charlotte for the fourth-highest snowfall in a single day on record, a remarkable detail considering the chaotic conditions.
