Shooting at Michigan Mall Leaves Two Dead, One Injured
In a tragic incident at a shopping mall in Michigan, two individuals were killed and a third was injured during a shooting on Friday afternoon, according to local police.
The conflict reportedly started around 1:25 p.m. when two groups of young people got into an argument that escalated into gunfire at Fairlane Town Center in Dearborn. Both of the men involved are believed to have entered the mall with handguns, leading investigators to suspect that this was not a random act. In response, Dearborn police, along with state and university police, swarmed the area and evacuated the mall.
Several individuals believed to be connected to the shooting were taken in for questioning, though it was uncertain if the shooter was among them. Photos shared online captured the chaos as people fled the scene, with one voice exclaiming, “Oh my god,” as the shooting ensued.
According to the police chief, three young men, likely in their late teens to early twenties, were shot. One victim succumbed to injuries at the mall, while another died later at a hospital. Additionally, a person fleeing the gunfire was reportedly struck by a vehicle in the parking lot.
Witnesses recounted hearing gunshots from an upper area of the mall. One bystander noted hearing an argument followed by gunshots, describing the panic that unfolded. Weston Fauntroy, who was shopping for his daughter’s birthday gift, shared that he heard several shots before quickly exiting the mall.
Mayor Abdullah Hammoud has urged the public to steer clear of the mall as police continue their investigation and secure the site.
Police Chief Shahin emphasized their commitment to identifying everyone involved, stressing that the safety of residents is paramount. “Violence is completely unacceptable, and we will ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” he stated.
This is a developing story.
